Hill training in the Himalayas

Hill training takes on a new meaning when  you throw the Himalayas into the mix. Add to that the fact that I will be training at altitude, and this could give me that much needed boost to run the Mumbai marathon. Or else leave me feeling really unfit.

Whatever the situation, it will make for some beautiful runs that will stay with me for life. And I’ll be meeting a group of Gurkhas, all who are being trained and mentored by Roshni Rai to run the marathon.

She tells me that when she checked how their training was going recently, they revealed they had been running half marathons every day. Over training? Maybe, but perhaps also a sign of their extreme fitness that running a half in the foothills of the mountains is nothing to them.

I feel I’m going to have my work cut out. I head there on January 2nd.
